PLAYERS: For the progressive male.

A lot of the pages are torn or cut out of the magazines and they’re incomplete as a whole. I guess my father kept what he liked and threw away what he didn’t like. That little bit that I posted is far from all of it, there is a lot more. There are tons of interviews(many with pages missing) of famous black artist, actors, musicians, and athletes; it’s not just a porn mag it’s history. Maybe I’m going too deep, but it means a lot to me for some reason. I was a little bit hesitant posting these pictures, like Liam Neeson sending his daughter off to Paris hesitant. I did it anyway, because I thought “Hey this will be fun, you’ll add new material to the internet(If you Google players magazine it’s almost like it didn’t exist), just do it!”. Hopefully I can get more info on the magazine, when I do I’ll share it here and of course I’ll keep posting more images when I have the time.

PLAYERS: For the progressive male.

“Before the King Magazine and Black Tail, and studio made reality tv porn stars, in the back of your drunk Uncles’ closet was PLAYERS MAGAZINE  Published by FAJIMO Media Service in Hollis Queens, Players was the only publication in the late 70′s / early 80′s catering to the “the progressive male”.”

At the beginning of this year I found my fathers stash in the basement. I thought it was beautiful, page after page of gorgeous women of color, I became very interested in its origin. Where did it come from, where is it now? A quick search informed me that they’re out of business, but the question of who made it/why is it gone is still at the forefront of my mind. I’ve been calling anybody I could find who was involved in the creation of this magazine. I found editors and publishers who are either dead or working somewhere else now. I’ve called the places of their new employment but never got a call back. The internet is little help, so all I have are the people involved, and my dads stash. Hopefully I can get more answers from S.D. ROCKSWELL, the writer behind this quoted link. I’ll also start posting images of the stash on my blog later.
